Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan: Foxconn view Indonesia Strategic Third Countries in the World

The company manufactures a large information technology from Taiwan, Foxconn, saw Indonesia as a strategic country in the world's third number. Therefore, the company will invest up to Rp 100 trillion in the long run.

 

"Essentially they classify us as a strategic country number three in the world," said Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan in an iftar with reporters, at the Ministry of Trade, Jakarta, Tuesday (14/08/2012).

 

Gita explains, Foxconn has previously invested in Brazil, India, to China. In Brazil, mentioned investment reached 10 billion U.S. dollars. Today, a number of Foxconn employees has reached 1.3 million people targeted Indonesia as a place to invest.

 

The plan, the company will start production by the end of December this year. Target of 3 million mobile phones per year will be generated.

 

Foxconn will also hold local businesses to work together in producing a number of electronic items. Gita said, investors have been talking to companies owned by PT Indonesia Telecommunications Industry (INTIi).

 

Foxconn also mentioned going to talk with Indonesia Tbk PT Telecom and private companies such as Polytron and Cosmos. "It's a local partner, it's up to them," he said.

 

Overall, the Gita says, Foxconn investments made in the medium to long term could be 5 billion-10 billion U.S. dollars, or around Rp 50 trillion to Rp 100 trillion. In the future, not just Foxconn manufactures electronic goods. The company will also build a smart city.

 

"Smart city that is not contrived in us as well," said Gita.
